General Information
It is composed of the Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) and the Northern Ireland. Standing as the ruling maritime and industrial power of the 19th century, the UK comprised one-fourth of the world. Losing its this power after the two World Wars, the kingdom rebuilt itself from the ruins of the first half of the 20th century. The country played a major role for the developement of parliamentary democracy and the advancement in literature and science. Now, the Britain is one of the main trade and financial centers of the world. While agriculture is one of the significant industries of the UK, insurance and banking like service sectors are the cornerstones of its economy. Being a significant member of the European Union, Britain is one of the five permanent member of United Nations Security Council and a founding member of NATO. Being blended with contrasts, the United Kingdom has a diversified landscape and a mosaic of cultures. England, Scotland, Wales and North Ireland have their own cultures and tourism treasuries.
