General Information
Being a
permanent member of European Union in 2007, Bulgaria passes through a dynamic
period in the sense that consistent investments and structuring activities are
implemented. Most of the cities and tourist fields are on the way of gaining a
new face. Half of the country lands are covered by majestic mountains. The
holiday resorts and golden beaches existed along the Black Sea coast are
flocked in by thousands of tourists from all over the world. In addition to
these geographic attractions, the churches found in Sofia and the country-wide
historical monasteries are among the most valuable tourist treasuries of
Bulgaria.
Sofia placed at the west part of country takes attention by its historical
highlights. 121 km away from this city surrounded by mountains is Rila
Monastery. It is the most important tourist and religious attraction of
Bulgaria. Saint George Cathedral, Bujuk Mosque, Nevski Church and Archeology
Museum are among the best sites of Sofia.
Nesebar founded in 1,500 B.C. by Greeks is a historical city hosting churches
from 15th and 16th centuries. Situated on a rocky island at the Black Sea, this
residential area is connected to the mainland by narrow isthmuses.
Rila Mountains at the north of Sofia is a dramy place for the enthusiasts of
the nature walks. Borovets Skiing Center and Musala Peak which is the highest
point at the Balkans are placed here. Rose Valley existed between Klisura and
Kazanlik is a world-famous place. Here, an endless number of roses are
cultivated. These roses are used in the production of the attar of roses and
